Christmas Decoration for a Park Rental

Photograph of a Homemade Christmas DecorationFestive decorations can make a Winter Park rental home feel cozy for the holidays. And the best part is that holiday décor doesn't need to be elaborate or expensive. In fact, with just a few basic materials and some creativity, you can make cheap and easy holiday décor items for your home. In what follows, we've come up with a few of our favorite holiday décor do-it-yourself projects on a budget.

Flannel It Up

Few matters can warm up cold winter nights like flannel sheets, blankets, and pillows. As simple as switching your regular sheets for a set made of warm flannel can add a new touch of coziness to your home. You can also try throwing in flannel throw pillows around the house for an instant mood booster. If storage space is a problem, consider making or buying seasonal pillow covers. Pillow covers are easy to make and can be changed for new patterns once the holidays are done.

Glass Jar Snow Globe

If you have big glass jars in your kitchen, you can easily transform them into holiday-themed decorations! Simply add white sugar or flour to the bottom of the jar, then top with model village houses, trees, and accessories. Tie a pretty ribbon around the rim, and you've now got a beautiful glass jar snow globe for your home.

Holiday Lanterns

Decorative lanterns are a great year-round décor item. Get yours prepped for the holidays by filling them with strings of lights or shiny ornaments. Tie a bright ribbon at the top for even more holiday appeal. You can use different sizes of lanterns for a dramatic effect. You can also group several string light lanterns in a fireplace for instant mood lighting or group lanterns filled with ornaments near an entryway.

Gingerbread House Advent

For a creative way to count down the days to Christmas, try creating a gingerbread house advent for your shelf or mantel. You can buy or build simple little wooden or cardboard houses and then paint them to look like gingerbread. Or, if you're feeling ambitious, make them out of real gingerbread! Be sure to number them, and then put a small gift or treat underneath to make the holiday countdown twice as sweet.

Bird House Christmas Village

One more easy décor project uses small wooden birdhouses to create a charming Christmas village display. Using tiny unpainted birdhouses, decorate each one to look like a pleasant holiday village. Add some imitation snow to each roof and some model village accessories for even more miniature appeal. Finally, hang a string of lights above your village to give your display a warm and festive feel.

Colorful Holiday Garland

If you enjoy working with fabrics, consider making an easy and colorful felt garland for your home or Christmas tree. Using small strips of colorful felt, you simply tie them onto a long piece of twine and then hang them anywhere. Use felt strips in your theme color, or go bold with a whole rainbow. Either way, you'll have made a lovely holiday decoration that you can use over and over again.
